My First Shrug

Hope everyone had a nice Christmas. Got all my knitting done and everyone like what they got from me.Here is a picture of the grand kids with their gifts.

After Christmas I finish a shrug I was working on, My first one. Does this count as a sweater, I like the pattern, no sewing. I hate to sew! The name of the pattern is shrug this.I added a button to the shrug. I think my little granddaughter Aley will get this one. I will be making more of these, they are so easy and quick.
what I want to learn to knit this coming year is a sweater and mittens.

My Birthday

Yesterday was my Birthday and in my family, my brothers and sisters. There is 7 of us, our custom is to call each other on our birthdays. My brothers Jess and Ron seem to forget things like that. Was I surprise when My oldest brother Jess called, I about fell out of my chair. I told him how surprised I was that he didn't forget, well he said my space sent him a notice about my birthday (we're both on my space) and he also said our baby sister called him that morning. LOL. Then my other brother Ron called, now having both of them calling I got suspicion's so I had to asked, did Paula call you to remind you, he said ya she called him that morning but his wife also remind him the day before.

OK I did get some knitting done, but am not done yet, I got another cowl on my needles, hand warmers, and a shrug, my first time doing a shrug I hope it turns out OK. I guess you not a true knitter until you have make a sweater, that's close...That is one thing I want to do is knit a sweater, but I don't like to sew. Oh well just do it!
Here are a few things I got done.

Stressful time

Its been sometime since I wrote in my blog. The last week in October and all of November has been very stressful for me. First my oldest son was in a fire, his camper trailer blew up with him inside. He turned on the burners on his cook stove to heat the camper, went out and came back in closed the door then saw the flames from the stove go all the way across the camper, then heard a sucking sound which then blew up and blew him outside, I guess they call that a back draft. His shirt and pants were on fire, he was pulling his shirt off and putting the fire out on his pants with his hands causing more burns to his hands. The back of his legs, his hands and face were burnt. They took him to Cape Girardeau, MO. My oldest daughter lives close by and heard about it and called me right away. So you can imagine what was going through my mind. I was waiting on my middle daughter and youngest son to pick me up. We got about 40 miles out of Marion when My daughter called and said they were air lifting him to St. Louis burn center in Mo. so we turned around and headed to St. Louis, Mo. We picked up my oldest daughter in Mt. Vernon and got back on the road. now I hate driving around St. Louis, we always get lost there and of course we got lost for 2 hours, ya we stop and ask for directions more than once. We finally got to the hospital around 3:30 a.m. went right on in to see him. They had a tube down his throat, his hands wrap, his face was black with blisters, most of his hair was gone. He looked awful but he was alive. I thank God for being with him, if he wasn't blown out of the camper he wouldn't be with us today and for all the prayers that went out for him that night. He came home one day short of a week and he only needed grafting on his hands and they are looking good today.
A week after we brought him home I got sick with a cold, my oldest came and took him home with her so he wouldn't catch what I had. I was sick for 2 weeks. Then my husband got sick coughing real hard, he finally went to the doctors and they took xrays of his chest and they found out he has copd. He is now getting over the cold he had.
So taking care of my son then myself and husband I did not have time to knit. I'm trying to catch up now on my Christmas knitting. Hopefully I will finish before then, I just need more hands or time.

Fall Fun

I went to my cousin last night for a party she had for the kids. They brought their own pumpkins to carve, after everyone ate, they started to carve their pumpkins. It was fun watching them, they had some very interesting pumpkins when they got done. I got to see a few before I had to leave, these old bones don't like the cool weather.

Now, what have I been knitting, not very much. I got alot of projects on my needles but it seems like I'm not getting anywhere. There is so much I want to knit for Grandkids and my kids for Christmas. Is anyone having the same problem as me. I am also behind on my KAL's, so after Christmas I will need to catch up.

Here is my Christmas mug rugs, I will be making more of these for Christmas gifts. They are so cute and fast to knit up.

I got one Christmas sock knitted, still need to finish putting name on there and two other ones on the needles, a kitchen towel, a hat, 2 socks, I guess I should finish what I started before I start anything else.

Doctor's Visit

Went with my cousin to her doctors visit Tuesday and I took the purple scarf I was working on for my granddaughter, since I didn't need my row counter. There was a little girl there around 8 with her grandmother. She came up to me and wanted to know what I was doing and I told her I was knitting a scarf, she told me purple was her favorite color. She went off to play for awhile, then came back and ask if she could have the scarf. I told her I wasn't finish yet and that it wasn't long enough, she said that's OK my neck is small. So I bind off and gave it to her.

my trip to the yarn shoppe

Greg and Suzan are the owners of The Yarn Shoppe in Herrin, IL.
If you live around Southern Illinois or driving through drop in and say hi to
them. They are so nice and helpful
and have about anything you would
need to knit or crochet and yes they
have spinning wheels. I went in there
yesterday to get a drop spindle and
filber,I guess thats what you would call it (I new to all this) , Greg took the time to sound me how it works
I just glad we have a place like that around here, that we have a choice where we buy our yarn, and other goodies. I know I will go back. I could just live there among all that yarn. sorry I got carry away.

This spinning wheel is on my wish list, I just love it, don't know how to work one but will learn one of these
days

.

Well next time I will put on here what I purchase at The Yarn Shoppe.
